About me

I'm Nikon. I'm southern. I'm indecisive. I'm loyal. I'm an introvert. I'm trained in chemical engineering. I talk too much. I love words. I love coffee and chocolate. I love meat and vegetables. I'm a home-diva. I love Jesus. I love color. I love people. I love music. most kinds. I love to organize. I craft. I sew. I read. a lot. I write. I wear pajamas more than real clothes. I'm still finding my inner girly-girl. I have a muffin top. I crave affirmation. too much. I hate plucking eyebrows. I hate to sweat. I hate whining. I hate cleaning. I hate change.

I call Kingsport, Tennessee home these days, but I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, and we are proud Wolfpack fans and alumni in this house!

I have always yearned to capture the beauty I see in this world through a lens, but the Pioneer Woman changed my photographic world in 2008, suggesting the 50mm 1.8 lens. I've been seriously pursuing photography since early 2008 - well, as seriously as you can with two tiny ones. Little Buddy is 5 and the Little Lady is 3.

I believe God has given me the talent I have. I hope to some day tangibly use this gift to glorify Him in a big way. (I do think I'm doing that on a small level now) It is my dream to travel far, far away and photograph the children and cultures somewhere else, to bring the reality of their struggles to this pampered American existence (though I'm not sure my heart could take it).

I am so very passionate about capturing the moments.  The real, true interactions and connections.  No posing.  No planning.  Real life.

I am a storyteller.

The camera is my pen.  The image is my ink.  I am telling stories through my craft.  Forever preserving these moments for my family.  I get goosebumps if I allow myself to sit long enough to think about my children looking back on all of this in thirty years.  Seeing what it was like for us right now.  Seeing their stories before their eyes.

My Gear

I do what I do with my Nikon D90.  My lenses, up until July 2011, were only the Nikon 50mm f1.8 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4.  That's it.  In July, I was finally able to invest in the Nikon 50mm f1.4D and the Nikon 85mm f1.8.  There's a common saying in the photography world to "Rock What You've Got."  Well, that's precisely my mantra!
